Puppy Training Kit Plus

Clicker Dog Training with Karen Pryor

The Dog Training Kit Plus pictured above includes everything you will need to get started Clicker Training your Dog. The kit includes: The New Expanded Getting Started Clicker Training for Dogs Book (approx. 100 pages), an i-Click, a set of Click-a-Trick Cards, an open out instruction booklet teaching how to use the clicker itself, and a sample of dog treats.

The new edition of the book in the kit is packed with step-by-step photographs of dogs and their handlers, clearly showing each stage of:

  • Shaping a behavior
  • Choosing and delivering a reward
  • Raising criteria
  • Target training
  • Timing the click
  • How to progress in small steps
  • Clicker training foundation behaviors, including Sit, Down, and Come when Called
  • Clicker training walking on a loose leash
  • Teaching a dog to be clicker savvy with the classic game “101 Things to do with a Box”
  • Training alone, with a partner, and in a group
  • Keeping training fun for you and your dog

The book also goes into the science of the training a bit and covers:

  • Why every interaction with your dog is a training opportunity
  • Why mistakes are best ignored
  • Why punishment doesn’t work
  • Why your dog will understand the language of the click better than anything else

The book was also updated with a new chapter on where to find more information and connect with other clicker trainers and a section with Frequently Asked Questions and Clicker Tips.

Now you can buy the book alone without having to buy the this whole kit but I think this kit is a great deal because the book alone is going to cost $16.95. When you buy the kit you are getting an i-click which would cost $1.85, the dog treats = $5.00, the cards and instruction booklet for the i-click which = $10.00 , and the puppy dvd which alone runs $24.95! So when you add that all up you are getting about $60.00 worth of stuff for only $39.95.

For me , I found Clicker Training a bit cumbersome. Holding the clicker , the treats, and the leash and control my dog all at the same time was harder for me than other methods. Others don’t have a problem with this. I think the benefits can be that your dog associates reward with the sound of the click very quickly and therefore you can use less food reward. So now you won’t be plying your dog with a lot of extra food.

Whichever way you go, if you decide on the Dog Training Kit Plus, Karen Pryor’s training is the cream of the crop.
